About the neighborhood

LeDroit Park was founded by former Howard University Board of Trustees member Amzi Barber in 1873. This neighborhood has been recognized as the LeDroit Park Historic District and recorded in the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. In fact, structures with 19th Century architectural style in this neighborhood are being protected and preserved.

LeDroit Park Heritage Trail - 90-minute walking cultural tour opened in 2015, which includes 16 signposts starting at Florida Avenue 

Mary Church Terrell House - part of the LeDroit Park Historical District and was home to the first African-American school board member and civil rights leader Mary Church Terrell
