Whether you're a long-time resident or just visiting, these ideas will guarantee you have a good time!

1. ‘Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirrors’

When: May 12th-14th 10-5:30 pm

Where: Hirshhorn Museum & Sculpture Garden, 7th Street SW and Independence Avenue SW

Description: One of the most highly anticipated DC experiences of the year enters its final weekend at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. Yayoi Kusama is one of the world’s greatest artists, a Japanese woman who specializes in immersive art. Her mirror rooms, large-scale paintings and child-like installations will are on display in an exhibit that has drawn large crowds and lots of Instagram posts. You must have a timed pass to enter the exhibit, which closes for good on Sunday. Admission is free.

2. Kingman Island Bluegrass & Folk Festival

When: Saturday, May 13th 12-8 pm

Where: Kingman Island, 575 Oklahoma Avenue NE 

Description: This annual salute to bluegrass music features local vendors and good vibes on the gorgeous Kingman Island in northeast DC. Leading contemporary artists within the bluegrass and folk genres will perform, including Town Mountain, Dom Flemons and Frank Solivan & Dirty Kitchen. The festival is all about community and sustainability (proceeds go towards the Living Classrooms Foundation), so grab a drink and some food, enjoy the weather and scenery and celebrate with friends. 3. DC Bike Ride

When: Sunday, May 14th 8-1 pm

Where: 121 West Basin Drive SW (Corrals address)

Description: Join the area’s bike-riding community during the only closed-road, car-free bike ride in the nation’s capital. The 20-mile course will show off DC’s beautiful spring sights and provide plenty of time for you to chat with and get to know fellow lovers of the bike ride. All proceeds go to the Washington Area Bicyclist Association, which works to deliver street safety. The event concludes with the Finish Festival, which will feature live music, entertainment and food trucks. A special perk: kids ages 3-7 ride for free! You must register for this event.

4. Lounge at Top of the Gate

When: Sunday, May 14th 1-11 pm

Where: Top of the Gate at The Watergate Hotel, 2650 Virginia Avenue NW

Description: The Watergate Hotel’s rooftop bar opens for its first full season this weekend. Joining DC’s impressive roster of rooftop experiences, Top of the Gate includes beautiful views of the Potomac River and a new menu that includes shareable pizzas, creative cocktails and a granita cart featuring seasonal flavors. Time to kick back, relax and savor summer from an elevated perspective.

5. Mother's Day Cupcake and Beer Pairing

When: Sunday, May 14th 12-5 pm

Where: New District Brewing Company 2709 South Oakland Street
